Allentown Animal Clinic Joins the Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association

hsvmaDue to increased affiliations with local shelters and rescue organizations, the Allentown Animal Clinic joined the Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association on August 2, 2013. The Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association (HSVMA) was formed in 2004 as a home for veterinary professionals who want to engage in direct care programs for animals in need and educate the public and others in the profession about animal welfare issues.

The HSVMA relies on the foundation of the 5 Freedoms, along with relevant science and social ethics, to promote animal welfare within the veterinary profession and beyond:

  • Freedom from Hunger and Thirst
    By ready access to fresh water and a diet to maintain full health and vigor.
  • Freedom from Discomfort
    By providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area.
  • Freedom from Pain, Injury or Disease
    By prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment.
  • Freedom to Express Normal Behavior
    By providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company of the animal’s own kind.
  • Freedom from Fear and Distress
    By ensuring conditions and treatment which avoid mental suffering.
